How to soothe a sore throat at home without taking medicines.

Have you ever had a sore throat? me, a lot! But, i guess no one never had it. Or you gotta tell me if you know someone who never ever ever ever had it yet! haha :D

As a teen, feeling sick makes me sick! I really hate taking medicines just to feel better. It's not the taste that i hate, but the thought that medicines have undergone through processes with chemicals and whatever! And with that hate, i get myself to find other ways to make myself feel better.

Everytime i'm having a sore throat, what comes in to my mind is it is a viral infection, that what comes after it is either cough or colds or even both! And i would surely hate that.

To prevent myself from having these - getting rid of sore throat and avoiding the after effect - without taking medicines, of course the first person i ask about health is my mom. Yep! my mom. She's not a doctor but for my family, she is. I guess everyone else's family doctor is their moms too. :)

So, what she told me to do are:

1. Gargle with a warm salt and water mixture.

At first, i didn't believe her because it doesn't really sound too effective but based on my experience for many times, it does. Gargling several times a day with a warm salt water can reduce swelling in the throat and loosen mucus, helping to flush out irritants or bacteria.

To make a this mixture, just dissolve a half teaspoon of salt in one cup of warm water. If it's too salty for you, just add a bit of honey to slightly sweeten the mixture.

Just don't forget to spit the salt water out after gargling, don't drink it!

2. Always drink water or keep yourself hydrated.

Staying hydrated is very important especially when your throat is scratchy or inflamed.

3. Take a lozenge.

One of the most popular lozenges in the Philippines is Strepsils. Looks like a candy and tastes like menthol.
It doesn't really cure your sore throat but it helps you lessen that scratchy painful feeling. It gives you a cooling effect like menthol or eucalyptus and it helps you keep your throat moist.

4. Warm tea sweetened with honey.

Tired of drinking water? Try a warm tea. A cup of tea can offer a soothing relief for a sore throat. Some teas contain ant-oxidants that may help you strengthen your immune system and avoid infection. Adding honey to it doesn't only sweeten the taste but it also has antibacterial properties that may help you heal faster.

Other warm fluids, including soup, also gives that relieving feeling. Just make sure that everything that you eat or drink is warm, not hot! Hot food or drinks may burn your sensitive throat and make it even worse!

5. Rest.

Getting some rest is probably one of the best things that you can do to battle the infection that caused your sore throat in the first place. Making sure your body is well-rested and not stressed may at least help fiight off the virus so you can get better the soonest.

You don't really have to spend too much on medicines to cure a soar throat. I've tried all these and based on my own experience, these simple home tips works for me. And i hope it will work for you too.
But, if these tips doesn't work on you, you can always go and consult to your doctor. :)

15 Things You Probably Never Knew or Thought About

1. At least 5 people in this world love you so much they would die for you.

2. At least 15 people in this world love you in some way.

3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you is because they want to be just like you.

4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don't like you.

5. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep.

6. You mean the world to someone.

7. If not for you, someone may not be living.

8. You are special and unique.

9. Someone that you don't even know exists loves you.

10. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good comes from it.

11. When you think the world has turned its back on you, take a look: you most likely turned your back on the world.

12. When you think you have no chance of getting what you want, you probably won't get it, but if you believe in yourself, probably, sooner or later, you will get it.

13. Always remember the compliments you received. Forget about the rude remarks.

14. Always tell someone how you feel about them; you will feel much better when they know.

15. If you have a great friend, take the time to let them know that they are great.

What is the difference between a "First Love" and a "True Love"? a teen asked.

This is just one of a thousand questions in my mind right now.

I am 17. And yes, believe it or not, i have never ever ever ever had a boyfriend in my entire life yet!

I have friends, who are of the same age as mine, that are in a relationships already.
And some of them already had a lot even before we became teens.
They look so in-love like they've already found their one true love, their destiny.
They look so happy like they're gonna be together for the rest of their lives.
Like they're gonna marry them already.

While me? i can't even imagine myself having one.
I've had suitors and admirers around me, asking for a date, a movie or a dinner after school. Some sends me cellular load, flowers, notes, texts and calls. But none of them, even one, really touched my heart and changed my mind from staying single. I mean, a No-Boyfriend-Since-Birth type of girl.
It's not that i don't really like them, it's just that i still don't want to and  feel too young and unready for love.

So instead of trying to have a boyfriend and figure it out by myself.
Can you tell me what is the difference between a first love and a true love?

The Mysterious Guy in my Early Years in College :)

I'll share a story, about a memory a few months back.

It was during the 2nd semester of my first year in college. I was a transferee from a school an island away from home. My parents decided to convince me to transfer from a University in Cebu to a Business School in Tacloban so i can spend my weekends with them. I am taking up BS Accountancy and my subjects from both schools don't really have that much difference.

My first month in my new school is kinda boring. I don't really make new friends. I always go only with my high school friend who is also studying in the same school as mine or sometimes, alone. Strangers, strangers, that is all i see. Strangers in the hallway, strangers in the classroom, strangers everywhere at school!

But, there was this stranger i saw at school, it was around 5:30 of one Thursday afternoon. He was tall, taller than me. He was wearing the school uniform while i don't which means he belongs to the upperclassmen. Chinky eyes and white complexion, looks mysterious in every way. He was with a friend or two, standing near the room of my next subject. I looked at him with a look of a stranger, then he looked at me and i looked away. I walked alone.

I entered the room of my next subject and seated a chair away from the front door. Few minutes later, i felt like someone is looking at me. So i looked straight through the door and i saw the same stranger, still standing where he stood. Eye-to-eye, we looked at each other, then i, again, looked away.

After the class, i went outside, of course my classmates too, for it is time to go home. He was still there, standing where he stood, with his friends.

It happened over and over for two weeks, twice a week, same days and time of the week - Tuesdays and Thursdays. That i, get to look forward to seeing this stranger over and over every time. Always outside our classroom door. He's so mysterious that I always wonder who he is and what was he doing there, or who was he waiting for. But of course i'm not the desperate kind of girl who just asks any stranger. So i just stayed calm and quite, and patient.

But, i noticed that i already took the subject that time from my first University, so i decided to Officially Drop it since it was still under the adding and dropping period. And that, there and then, i didn't have more chances to get to see or know that stranger. That was the last time i saw him, the mysterious college guy. He will forever be a part of my-early-years-in-college memories though. Who knows? Maybe one day, our paths will cross again, right? :)

One Kiss from You :)

I wrote a song but still unfinished. The lyrics goes like this:

When you're not around
Every other word is your name
Everyone knows how i feel
Though i never told them a thing

They know just from my smiles,
That you've got my heart on a string
Everyone knows that music's around me
'cause you are the song that i sing

You're the sun in my day
The wind in my sky
The waves in my ocean
And beat in my heart
I'd walk halfway around the world
for just one kiss from you
one kiss from you..
